Andrew Ralph Folk, Sr. ST. STEPHEN, SC - Andrew Ralph Folk, Sr., formerly of Hanahan, SC, and widower of Olivia Riley Folk, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, May 23, 2015, in St. Stephen, SC, with his daughter and special nurse Joy by his side. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at Carolina Memorial Gardens in
Charleston, SC., followed by a military graveside service. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Mr. Folk was born on June 5, 1920, in Orangeburg to the late William Lawton Folk and Louise B. Folk of Branchville, SC. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and as a reservist until 1980. He was a 1949 graduate of the University of South Carolina where he was a member of Kappa Phi Kappa Professional Education Fraternity and where he became an avid lifelong Gamecock supporter. Mr. Folk began his career in education in Mayesville, SC, where he met the love of his life, Olivia Riley. He continued his career at North Charleston High School for a year before becoming principal at Ladson Elementary School where he served the Ladson community until 1976. After his retirement from education, Mr. Folk worked in security until the age of 78. He faithfully served the Lord for over 50 years at Remount Baptist Church in Hanahan where he served as a Deacon, a Sunday School teacher, and a member of numerous committees planning the growth of the church. He continued serving the Lord at Berkeley Baptist Church from 2005 until the time of his death. Mr. Folk was preceded in death by his wife Olivia Folk, sons Andy Folk and Rusty Folk, sisters Irene F. Murray and Norma L. Folk, and brothers J.W. Folk, Billy Folk, and Luther Folk. He is survived by his daughter Anne F. Graham (Gerald) of Moncks Corner, SC, daughter-in-law Joann Hayton of Columbia, SC, and grandchildren Jim Graham, Alex Graham (Alexis), and Andrea Folk. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Lily and Luke Graham, Eli and Piper Graham, Drew Green, and Riley and Oliver Folk. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Janice Folk, and a number of nieces and nephews. Our love and appreciation to Mr. Folk's special former caregiver Emma Wilson with Allcare Living Services, to Emily, Joan, and the staff of Hospice of Charleston, and to the family of nurses, CNAs, staff, and volunteers of Lake Moultrie Nursing Home in St. Stephen, SC, for their loving and compassionate physical and spiritual care given to our loved one and his family.
