William J. Taney III (Bill), 84, of Lake Forest, Illinois passed away Wednesday evening, January 21, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family.
Born January 11, 1942, in Chicago, William was the cherished husband of Gail for 58 years; a loving father to William, Robert (Kaitlin Salisbury), and Katey (Jonathan) Goorvich, and a proud and devoted grandfather to Shaye Goorvich.
Over his 84 years, Bill traveled the world and cherished time with family. A graceful and skilled golfer with a brilliant scientific mind, he was an avid reader with wide-ranging intellectual curiosity. He was deeply devoted to the Chicago Cubs, reading Neil Steinberg's weekly column, and understanding the mysteries of the universe.
Above all, William was a loving, devoted husband and father, whose quiet wisdom and steady presence brought comfort and guidance to all who knew him. He will be privately interred at Lake Forest Cemetery in Lake Forest, Illinois, a celebration of life will be held later. Donations can be made to St. Patrick's High School in Chicago, Illinois.
