Phillip Frederick Obituary

Phillip Frederick
WILLISTON - Phillip William Frederick Sr. of Williston, South Carolina, entered his eternal life with Christ at the age of 81 on September 24, 2024, with Jean - his devoted and loving wife of 61 years - by his side.
Born in Williston on July 6, 1943, Phil was the only child of Louie Lenwood Frederick and Jessie Beck Frederick. Though spending a number of years in Gloverville, SC, Phil was born and raised in Williston and graduated Williston-Elko High School in 1961. After graduating, he attended Limestone College and soon entered a career that included time as Purchasing Manager at Whirlpool Appliances in Williston, SC; Production Manager at Hubbell Power Systems in Aiken, SC; Technician in the Power Department at the Savannah River Site; and Operations Manager at Concrete Supply Company of Barnwell, SC.
Always proud to claim Williston as his home, Phil was an active and giving member of the Williston community. He was elected for 22 consecutive years as a Williston Town Councilman in addition to serving as a member of the Jaycees. Phil served in the Williston School District as an elected member of the Williston School Board and president of the Williston Athletic Booster Club. He also enjoyed many years as a volunteer on the Williston Fire Department with time as its Fire Chief. Often teaching those around him that "Fat Lighter" houses couldn't be extinguished, he would frequently follow fire trucks to incidents around town.
One of Phil's greatest joys was to serve and be in community with his church, Williston First Baptist. Even in his later years when it became difficult to attend, he and Jean were devoted to worshiping with their church. His faithful service to the Lord was evident in his appointment as a deacon at Williston First Baptist, Sunday School mentor of "The Seekers" class, church choir member, and Christian leader of his family. His family is thankful for his consistent Christian leadership that powerfully pointed them to Christ.
Phil married Jean, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, on March 30, 1963. Phil loved Jean dearly, and together they grew a close-knit family that loved each other and the Lord. Known as "Papa" by his family, he always acknowledged that he valued his family above all other things and was present at every event in their lives. He and Jean were the foundation of the family and the focal point of all holidays and gatherings, always making sure to enjoy their loved ones as much as the good food. The things that brought him great joy included fishing and hunting with his family at the pond he helped build with his uncle. Frying fish and barbecuing whole hogs were regularly-scheduled events on his calendar as well as nightly viewings of old Westerns and cheering on the Clemson Tigers. Wittiness, humor, intuition, tenderness, and genuine love for others were a few of Phil's attributes that he supplied in excess to his family. Never could you visit Phil and not leave amazed at his knowledge of world events or tickled at his endless jokes and hilarious observations. Often remembering growing up very poor, Phil was always thankful for what he had and was an ever-cheerful giver.
Survivors are his dedicated wife of 61 years, Jean McNair Frederick; son Phillip William "Bill" (Renee;) Frederick Jr.; and daughter Carol Frederick (Tim) Bolen. Phil leaves behind four beloved grandchildren and a great-grandchild: Lauren Elisabeth Byars, Timothy "Grant" Bolen, Natalie Jean Bolen, Reid Hampton Bolen, and Jackson Edward Byars. He is preceded in death by his grandson Phillip William "Will" Frederick III.
A graveside celebration of Phil's life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Williston Cemetery beginning at noon. Visitation will follow the service.
Pallbearers include Don Bolton, Laurie Frederick, Jimmy Flannigan, Ronnie Inabinet, Bob Porter, Don Shaffer, Tim Smith, Dick Sprawls, Milton Widener, and Leonard Widener.
Phil's family would like to express a very deep appreciation for the Remain-At-Home staff who showed extensive care and love to him and Jean for over eight years.
If desired, the family asks that memorial donations in Phil's name be made to Williston First Baptist Church, 13030 Main Street, Williston, SC 29853.
"To love and be loved is the greatest joy on Earth."
