Reverend Dr. Nathaniel Irvin, Sr.
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Reverend Dr. Nathaniel Irvin, Sr., 87, N. Augusta, S.C., passed away, Saturday, October 1, 2016. A celebration of his extraordinary life will be held Saturday, October 8, 2016-11:00 a.m. at the Gilbert-Lambuth Memorial Chapel of Paine College, Augusta, GA. Interment will be held at the Old Storm Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Beech Island, SC.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 7 from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. at the Old Storm Branch Baptist Church.
Rev. Irvin was driven by a desire to serve. As pastor, teacher, principal, civil rights and community leader, counselor and friend, he made no distinctions among the needs of people. Throughout his 54 years of pastoring (Greater Mt. Canaan Bapt. Church 1959-1980, Augusta, GA; Old Storm Branch Bapt. Church 1980-2013, Beech Island, SC), he proudly proclaimed the Grace of Jesus Christ, the power of forgiveness, and the need to love one another. He was a beloved teacher and school administrator, a historian, and an outspoken civil rights leader in the CSRA and beyond. He proudly served this nation as a member of the U.S. Army (1950-1952). He earned the BA and MS degrees from South Carolina State College, and did further study at the University of Kentucky. For his lifetime of religious and community service, and his support of education, he was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Morris College, Sumter, S.C. (1999).
Reverend Irvin is survived by his wife Eugenia (Jean) Johnson Irvin, daughter, Cheryl Elizabeth Irvin, Esq, Houston, TX, two sons, Dr. Thomas L. Irvin, Col-Retired, USA Army, North Augusta, S.C., and Dr. Nathaniel (Chandra Goforth) Irvin II, Louisville, KY, sister Marie L. Key, N. Augusta, S.C., three grandchildren, Nathaniel Irvin III, Atlanta, Jovian Zayne Irvin, New York, and Roman GianArthur Irvin, Atlanta, GA, brothers and sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, god children, friends, and dear friends, Roosevelt and Theresa Mealing and Rev. Don't Cry For Me

Don't cry for me,
I will be okay.
Heaven is my home now,
and this is where I'll stay.
Don't cry for me,
I'm where I belong.
I want you to be happy
and try to stay strong.
Don't cry for me,
It was just my time.
But I will see you someday
on the other side.
Don't cry for me,
I am not alone.
The angels are with me
to welcome me home.
Don't cry for me,
for I have no fear.
All my pain is gone,
and Jesus took my tears.
Don't cry for me,
this is not the end.
I'll be waiting here for you,
when we meet again.

A true wonderful awesome man, whom truly loves and cares about his people, you will truly be miss,

To the Irvin Family, we offer our sincere sympathy. The "Community Pastor", is gone home. He taught about the world and he taught the Word. He taught how to love and how to live. He demonstrated how to be a friend to the friendless. We invited him to be our guest speaker here in Ohio, and he delivered a message that involved Isiah and Bethune, and kept the audience on the edge of thier seats. He is much loved here in Dayton, Ohio.

The world is a better place because he touched so many lives. He saw some good in everyone. We will miss him dearly.

To: The Family of the late Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Irvin, Sr.

I was sorry to hear of Rev. Irvin's death.I have many memories of him as my guidance counselor at Jefferson High. I also remember him as a great spiritual mentor and leader. My family and I want to extend our deepest condolences, We hope that the following words will be a comfort to you.

It's God's Will And We Must Comply
By: Charles G. Turner, Sr.
Jefferson High School Class of 1970)

Life is uncertain,
But as sure as we are born one day we must die
Sometimes we sit and wonder why
The fact is it's God's will and we must comply

Throughout our lives we live through happiness and sadness
And many toils and strife
And when our earthly life is over we enter into our eternal life

Whenever a loved one or friend makes their earthly depart
It is natural for it to bring hurt and sorrow to our heart
And to deal with our loss we grieve, mourn, and cry
In all essence we must remember this is God's will
And we all must comply

For those of us that are left behind
We must cherish the special memories
And keep them all in mind
Just remember it is not for us to question why we have to die
It's God's will and we all have to comply

May God Bless You
With Heartfelt Sympathy
