Mary Stone Tope
AIKEN, SC - Mary Stone Tope, 90, entered her heavenly home peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Aiken Regional Hospital.
She was born on July 7, 1926 in Cary, North Carolina (in the same country home as was her mother.) She is the daughter of Marcus and Lula Stone. Mary graduated from Duke University in 1946 obtaining her degree in Physics in three years at the age of 19.
Mary was an avid reader of westerns and wrote one novel herself. Her other passions included raising basset hounds, playing golf and tennis, hunting and traveling. She was able to visit all 50 states with the one exception of Hawaii. She visited Russia twice, Scandinavia, and Israel 10 times.
Mary served in Christian Ministries for 30 years. Much of this time was devoted to the study of her Hebraic Roots. With courage and determination, she sought truth found in the Torah of YHVH. Through this knowledge she taught countless people about their Hebraic Roots, the study of Torah, including the Festivals of the Lord. Mary enjoyed observing the Sabbath in her home each week and joyfully celebrating the Feasts of the Lord.
Mary was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Charles Tope and granddaughter Richie Tope. She is survived by her four children, Charles Robert Tope (Charlie), Dr. Mary E. Tope (Bets), Dr. John J. Tope (Jeff), and Catherine B. Tope (Cathy). She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Rob Tope, Mark Tope, Stephanie Buice, Jay Tope and Mimi Ann Tope, as well as 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams Street, Apex, NC 27502. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm and the service at 2 pm. Burial will follow at cemetery adjoining funeral home property.
