I still think of some of the silly, funny things we did together. Like riding in my VW, it was a little cramp for Maria, we were like Mutt and Jeff. And drinking out of sippy cups. I do miss her.

For her family's sake and my own I am deeply sorry to have found that Maria has passed on, but I am happy to know as one who knew her back in college that she is no doubt with the Lord reaping the treasures she accrued in heaven through her numberless selfless works of love. When I became associated with the Baptist Student Union at USC Aiken in the mid 70's I met Maria and learned from some of the other members that she had some sort of special spiritual gift. I think it is known as the ability to read hearts and/or the state of a person's mind: I happened to meet her again years later during a period of severely challenging troubles and in conversation she told me something just out of the blue which was related to a certain spiritual ordeal I was going through... that was back in 1987. What she told me helped a great deal to alleviate the strain I was under. No doubt she employed this gift many times and which helped her to discern the needs of people without letting them know of her gift. She was indeed an angelic person blessed with the name of Jesus' Mother and with many graces which she shared with so many. I had tried to locate her last year... or maybe it was this year, but just couldn't find her anywhere. It occurred to me just today (9/28/17) that she may have passed away due to a medical condition she'd had most of her life, and so I put her name in the browser under Aiken/obituaries... and there she was, that is, the notice of her death, only five months ago! But no, Maria is alive and well and eternally living with the Lord!

I was close to Maria when I was a little girl and she was always the kindest, most gentle person. She was a great example of a godly woman and I was blessed to have known her. I will always remember her great smile that could light up the room and how much fun I had with her.

I am rather at a loss for words. Maria and I were very good friends, I just found out. I had been out of town taking care my parents for some time. Maria and I did a christian weight class together. She was so willing to sign me up to read to her children, I always left crying. She had a most sweet heart, so loving. My youngest daughter loved her alot too. The family will be in my prayers. She was to young to go, but I know she is in the right place.

Paul, I was in Girl Scouts with Maria for years, and we were good friends. She had a soprano singing voice and we used to sing songs on Girl Scout outings. She was taller than I, who was also tall. Wasn't she on the basketball team at Kennedy? She must have been an exceptional teacher of special ed kids because she was so gentle and kind. I am shocked to learn of her passing and so sorry for your loss. I won't forget her. My name before I married was Becky Roberts.
