Leo Sain Obituary

Leo H. Sain
Oak Ridge, TN - Mr. Leo H. Sain, age 73, of Oak Ridge, TN passed away May 13, 2021 surrounded by family.
Born in Manchester, TN September 1, 1947, Leo came from humble beginnings. As a young man he married the love of his life Susan. He was presented as a draft pick to the Pittsburg Pirates but instead chose a different path. He joined the US Navy where his true passion for the nuclear business began. Upon completing his service to his country, his life settled in Chattanooga with his family of 3 children, Tammy, Richard, and Jonathon. Leo was a hard worker and loved his family fiercely. He completed his degree in Nuclear Physics with a 4.0 all while wearing many hats as husband, coaching all 3 children in many sports, and working fulltime with TVA.
As you can imagine, being the man Leo was, his career took many paths as he transitioned into the Department of Energy industry. He was a mentor to many throughout his successful career. Leo was an icon to say the least. He held many positions, including President of Washington Safety Management Solutions, President of Washington Savannah River Company, CEO/President of UCOR, and most recently as the D&D/Waste Management Sector lead within Nuclear & Environment for Amentum. Those are just some ways he contributed to so many.
Leo was a devoted husband, father, and Pap that will be greatly missed and forever loved. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Susan L. Sain. Survivors include daughter, Tammy Sain of Chattanooga, TN, sons, Richard Sain and wife Nikki of Knoxville, TN and Jonathon Sain and wife Michelle of Clinton, TN, grandchildren, Jessica Williams (Patrick), Carson Rogers (Caden), Jett Stegall, and Ryle Sain, great-grandsons, Brayden and TJ Williams, and very special family friend and caregiver Emily Seivers (Joe).
In lieu of flowers please send any contributions to Tunnel to Towers at t2t.org. There will be a celebration of life to be announced in the coming weeks but no services are planned at this time. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

This was a very sad day for a lot of folks that worked with Leo. Extremely sad for myself, he was a great mentor, leader and associate.

One would always know when Leo was in the area due to his unmistakable voice and laugh. As a leader, Leo always had an answer for situations that would arise, he was not one to tell you how to do your job but to encourage you and coach you to come up with the correct answers. With cell phone in hand he was always multitasking keeping the daily challenges under control. If you met Leo once, and that was 20 years ago, you would certainly know who he was if you were in conversations and his name came up, that's how unforgettable Leo was.

My condolences to his beautiful family and to his extremely large business family who had the pleasure of working with Leo.
