Joanne Cadotte Obituary

Joanne Mary Cadotte
Aiken - Joanne Mary Cadotte, 70, passed away suddenly at her home on April 18, 2022.
Joanne was born Joanne Altimas in Montreal, Canada, and grew up in eastern Ontario. At age 6 her father was transferred from RCA Montreal to RCA Prescott. They lived in Ogdensburg, New York, for 4 years and then moved across the river to Prescott.
In Prescott she developed a love and proficiency for golf, living right near the course. She won a junior girls' golf tournament the day her brother was born in 1963. She attended South Grenville district high school from 1965-1968 and then went to Algonquin College in Ottawa, graduating in 1971.
Joanne worked at a law firm in Vancouver, British Columbia, for several years, where a person could (as she did) leave work and go skiing on Grouse Mountain. She also skied the other resort areas in the province. Work and family life took her back to Oakville, Ontario, where her son, Brendan, was born.
The next stop for work was Charleston County, South Carolina, which she dearly loved until the day she died. She met her husband, Bruce, on a visit with friends on Hilton Head. Bruce took her from Seabrook Island, where they were married August 31, 1991, to Aiken, and she always thought it was strange to move to the South to marry a man with a French Canadian last name.
Although she did a little work in real estate in Aiken, her favorite job was following children's immunizations for the Health Department. Though that program foundered, she continued to work for the health department until her retirement.
After retirement, Joanne devoted a great deal of time and energy to the Aiken Mid-Day Lions Club and its charitable work, serving at times as an officer. She supported the local Salvation Army and the Boys and Girls Club whenever she could.
Bruce and Joanne both played golf and tennis in Aiken, principally at Woodside Country Club where they were members for about 20 years. Meanwhile, they both loved to travel, both in the U.S. and in Europe, where her favorite city was Florence. Much local travel involved a classic soccer team, on which Brendan played for years. Joanne was actually scheduled to leave for another trip right after her birthday. A highlight was riding for the Krewe of Iris during Carnival in New Orleans.
Joanne loved people and never met a stranger. A more outgoing and captivating person would be hard to find.
Joanne was predeceased by her parents, Joan and Jack Altimas. She is survived by her husband, Bruce, and his brother Neil; her son, Brendan Robertson; by her brother, Colin Altimas of Kingston, Ontario; her cousin Kevin O'Connell and his wife Barbara of Atlanta and other cousins and in-laws.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.
A Celebration of Joanne's Life will be Wednesday afternoon, April 27th at 2 o'clock at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Aiken Mid-Day Lion's Club Foundation, P.O. Box 5803, Aiken, SC 29804 or the Salvation Army.
