Hershel Goode Obituary

Mr. Hershel Frederick "Fred" Goode, 67, of Jackson, SC entered into rest Sunday, March 22, 2026.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Wanda Goode and their children Mary Goode (fiancé Bryan Grady) and Hershel A. "Andy" Goode and his beloved companions, Dolly and Negan Goode. He was born on October 18, 1958 in Charleston, West Virginia to Dewey Hershel Goode and Rosalie Adkins Goode. He was the youngest of nine children and is survived by three sisters and one brother.

Fred moved to Aiken County in middle school and later settled in Jackson, where he spent most of his life. Prior to his disability, Fred enjoyed working in multicraft maintenance and welding. He had a natural green thumb and could grow plants wherever he lived. Fred was known for his sense of humor and enjoyed joking with others, especially seeing who he could frustrate. Above all, his biggest pride and joy was his children. Fred loved animals of all kinds, from cats and dogs to the occasional chicken, hamster, or fish welcoming all to his family. He was known to have at least as many lives as a cat and often found himself in unusual circumstances arising from snake bites, fires, ice, and cigarettes.

Wanda, Mary and Andy will receive friends at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC 29829, on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 1 o'clock, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2 o'clock in the funeral home chapel.
