James Irvin Summer
AIKEN, SC - James Irvin Summer, age 75, of Aiken, S.C., loving husband for nine wonderful years to Laurel Perry Summer and son of the late Clarence Summer and the late Annie Timmerman Summer, entered into eternal rest at his residence, Saturday morning, June 11, 2016.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Todd (Georgianne) Summer of Aiken, S.C.; daughters, Cindy Summer and Suzanne (Stan) Richardson both of North Augusta, S.C. and Sheryl (Robert) Lybrand of Aiken, S.C; a brother, Clyde (Joanne) Summer of Aiken, S.C.; twenty-one grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, a sister-in-law, Miriam Summer; brothers-in-law, Robert Johnson, David Berry, Eric (Paula) Berry; stepson, Bennett (Sherry) Hixon and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife of forty-two years, Donna Berry Summer; a brother, Truman Summer and sisters, Dolly Johnson and Millie Hubbs. He was born in and was a lifelong resident of Aiken County, S.C.
He was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Aiken. He retired from Kimberly- Clark as an Assistant Fire Chief after thirty-five years of dedicated service.
He enjoyed running his Flea Market at Six Points in Aiken for many years. He was a US Army Veteran. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His grandchildren held a very special place in his heart and life. He never met a stranger.
He had a "Heart of Gold", as he would help anybody who needed help. The world will be a better place with more people who cared for their fellowman like Irvin Summer did.
He shall be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Death is not the end, as he has just made that great transition to his new Heavenly Home. Earth's loss, is truly Heaven's gain.
A service, celebrating his life and homegoing, will be held at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Aiken on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 5:00 PM with Rev. Randy Ouzts and Rev. Ron Hasty officiating. The interment will follow at the Historical Graniteville Cemetery.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Mr. Summer never met a stranger and was always so helpful when I would stop by the flea market looking for some little obscure item for VBS or a youth program at church. God bless and keep your family during this time.

My heard was saddened when I heard the news about the passing of Mr. Irvin. He was one of the most loving gentled spirited men that I have ever know. The warm smile will always be a beckoning light in my memory. Consider yourself as blessed by having the presence of this man in your lives. God bless you all. I am the niece of Joe Hamilton neighbor and friend of Mr. Irvin.

My Thoughts and prayers are with the family

Was sorry to read of Irvin's passing, in the paper. Irvin always sat in front of me in Jr. High and High School if we had classes together, and the teachers made us sit alphabetically, which was usually the case.
We lived in Crosland Park when he and Donna did, and our children, John, Marie, and Robert, were in school with Cindy and Suzanne.
My husband Barry, also worked at Kimberly-Clark before he retired.
Although quiet, and shy back then, Irvin was truly a nice person to sit behind! May he rest in peace.
