Henry Leifermann Obituary
AUGUSTA, GA - Henry Peter Leifermann (Hank), died of natural causes Friday, September 2 at his home in Augusta, Ga. He covered the Civil Rights movement for United Press International (UPI) and was a former correspondent in Atlanta for "Newsweek" magazine. Hank wrote and edited for Time-Life Books and was a frequent contributor to "The New York Times Magazine" and other regional and national publications. He wrote the Fodor's Travel Publications guide-book South Carolina and authored the non-fiction book Crystal Lee, which was adapted for the Academy Award film "Norma Rae". He was born June 30, 1942 in Madison, Wisconsin and was raised in Aiken, South Carolina where he became the youngest Eagle Scout in the state. He is survived by his sister Linda L. Northway, his daughter Alexis Ann Leifermann, his son Peter Miles Leifermann and two granddaughters.

I knew Hank when we were boys. I attended his Eagle Scout ceremony at the church across from the old post office. I rode my bicycle from Dunbarton Oaks. Quite an accomplishment for Hank.
