Gary Douglas Pressnell
Wilmington, NC - Mr. Gary Douglas Pressnell, 72, of Wilmington, NC passed away Monday, September 6, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with his family at his side. Gary was born in Athens, Alabama on December 5, 1948, he was an independent insurance agent that specialized in financial planning.
Gary was a 1967 graduate from Aiken High School where he was an avid basketball player. Upon high school graduation Gary attended USCA and carried his love of basketball into his college years. In 2019 Gary, his college teammates and coach were recognized at USCA on their 50th year anniversary. This team and coach have remained close friends throughout their life's.
Growing up Gary and his family spent most of their free time at the lake, Clarks Hill, and there is where his true passion in life began. His love of fishing, skiing, simply being on the water is where Gary found true joy and peace and it only grew and continued throughout his life.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Cecil Pressnell and is survived by his mother, Edith Shores Pressnell. In addition Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Martha Sharpe Pressnell of Wilmington, NC; his sons, Hugh Troy Pressnell, Joseph Andrew Pressnell and wife Deanna, Timothy Gary Pressnell and wife Nikki, Randy Pickard and wife Bethany, Megan P. Graham and husband Wayne; three sisters, Marcia P. Glover, Cindy P. Augustine and husband Murl, both of New Ellenton and MaryJane Pressnell of Sharon, SC, 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, 3 nieces, Natasha Glover and Mandy Augustine, both of Aiken, SC and Whitney Roberts of Hickory Grove,SC, and 1 nephew, Bobby Augustine of New Ellenton, SC. Gary was preceded in death by a younger brother, Hugh Gregory Pressnell and by a nephew, Tyler Douglas Roberts.
Services will be held at a later time. The family requests memorials to be made to the American Heart Association, 116 Princess St, Wilmington, NC 28401.
