CHAPEL HILL, NC - Gail Abney Lewis, adored wife, sister, mother and grandmother joined the Angels in Heaven on Sunday July 30th, 2023.
Born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina, she attended Saint Angela's Academy and was a "fashion girl" for the Casual Hut Teen Board. Following school, Gail worked as a dental hygienist at Dr. Sheehan DDS. Her most memorable patient was a local boy, Bill Lewis. She said "yes" and their 39-year adventure began. Supporting Bill's fast-paced career, Gail took on the challenges of making homes in Spicer, MN, Omaha, NE, Roseville, CA, Fernhurst, UK, Landenberg, PA, Summerfield, NC, Chapel Hill, NC and raising her young family in homes full of love and beauty.
Gail spent much of her life traveling the United States and across Europe. She poured her creative energy into designing, collecting antiques and rustic elements from around the world. With Ashton by her side, they explored the English countryside and antique treasure troves collecting. Years later, the mother-daughter design team founded their business, South of Surrey, specializing with interior decorating services.
Famous for her southern hospitality, delicious cooking, Gail loved hosting parties and sharing her French Country home design ideas with family and friends. She will be remembered most for her endless love of family and as beautiful Gigi to Emma, Sutty and Georgie.
Gail's memory lives on through her husband, Bill Lewis of Chapel Hill, NC, her children -Dr. William Ramos-Lewis and wife, Andrea, granddaughter, Emma and daughter, Ashton Blue and husband, Aaron and granddaughters Sutton and Georgia and her brother, David Abney, family and many friends as well as Buckley, her castle dog. Gail is now reunited with her beloved mother, Maemae.
The memorial service will be held on September 2nd at 2 pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 800 Market Street, Chapel Hill, NC. A party celebrating Gail's life will be held at the Lewis family home immediately following the service. This will be a celebration of her life - so the dress attire will be "colorful" business casual.
Celebration flowers are welcome and can be sent to the church. Memorial donations can be made to the UNC Pediatric-Hematology - Oncology Patient & Family Assistance Fund ( Fund#346092 )
