Alta Posey Obituary

Mrs. Alta Marie Posey
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Funeral Services for Mrs. Alta Marie Posey, 97, of North Augusta, SC, who entered into rest November 20, 2014, will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Interment in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Posey was a native of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, a former resident of Los Angeles, California, having made North Augusta her home for 58 years. Commonly referred to as "Alta" or "Miss Marie," she was the epitome of a Spirited, Strong Woman. She was the devoted wife of the late Dudley T. Posey and was a licensed funeral director in South Carolina. Along with Dudley, she assisted in establishing the former Posey Funeral Home of Langley, SC and in 1956, Posey Funeral Home of North Augusta. Mrs. Posey was a past president of the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association Women's Auxiliary, and was a former member of the Carolina Hills Garden Club and the North Augusta Women's Club. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she faithfully served as a Relief Society President for over 20 years. Mrs. Posey truly sought to serve others in their time of need and had a special gift in lifting others up. She had a sharp wit, a kind heart, a welcoming home and a sense of adventure that could bring a smile to anyone's face. Her gracious, loving and tenacious character will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Nancy Posey, North Augusta, SC; three grandchildren, Melissa (Rob) Loose, Walker Posey and Liz (Rob) Jones; three great-grandchildren, Thayer Loose, Vivienne Loose and Elle Jones; a sister-in-law, Henrietta Walker Heaps; several loving nieces and nephews.
