Bruce McHoul Obituary

A. Bruce McHoul passed away on May 15, 2024 in Carrollton, GA. He was born on November 6, 1946 in Charleston, WV to Arthur and Glenna McHoul, classical musicians. While he lost his parents far too early (father at 10 years old and mother at 18 years old), they had a profound effect on his life, especially when it came to music. He started taking piano lessons at an early age, was in the marching band at Charleston High, joined his first rock band, The Esquires (the first of several), around the age of 16, and majored in Music Theory at Morris Harvey College (now University of Charleston).

He met Patsy Stockley in high school who, as he often said, was too good for him then. But they eventually reconnected in college, started dating, and married November 21, 1967. A musician at heart, he had a knack for sales and combined those skills starting in high school when we went to work selling pianos for Galperin Music Company. Post college, a regional (and eventually national) sales position with Kimball piano took them to Chicago (where son Rob was born) and then Roswell, GA. In 1977, he bought a chain of piano and organ retail stores in the Carolinas - Tadlock Piano and Organ - that took his small family to Lake Wylie, SC, just outside of Charlotte, NC (where daughter Krissy was born) where they lived for 40 years.

He owned those stores until 1992. It was then that he got into the car business, almost by accident. After working with auto dealers and then in the automotive tech field for several years, he co-founded his own technology company in the industry - AutoUpLinkUSA. He sold that company in 2017, retired, and moved to Villa Rica, GA where he and Patsy could be close to their children and grandchildren.

He played baseball at a young age and loved the game, even becoming a ball boy for the Charleston Senators, the local minor league affiliate. He was a huge Atlanta Braves fan all his life, converting many family and friends to Braves fans along the way. He was a proud season ticket holder after moving to Georgia and was thrilled to have followed them every step of the way in their World Series run in 2021.

He loved his friends and family dearly, especially the love of his life and wife of over 50 years. He faced adversity many times in his life and always came out ahead. He had an infectious spirit and never met a stranger. He will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife, Patsy, son Rob McHoul and daughter-in-law Jody McHoul, daughter Krissy Whitlock and son-in-law Justin Whitlock, granddaughters Abigail and Molly McHoul, and grandsons Robert and Owen McHoul.

Patsy,
I was so sorry to hear this sad news. Bruce and I spent a lot of happy times back in the early days of Mt. Creek. To know him, was to like him! My thoughts will be with you and your family.
