John Thibault Obituary

John Baptist Thibault, age 67, resident of Bellingham, WA died on July 30th, 2014 in Vannes, France peacefully after a year battle with gallbladder cancer. Dad was born in Seattle, WA to Marcella and Jean Thibault. Dad was married to Judy Thibault for over 35 years and re-married his second wife Khore Phoenix a month ago. His education spanned a BA of Social Work from Gonzaga University and a Masters in Social Work from Eastern Washington University. He also served Honorably in the United States Navy and was Discharged as a Petty Officer 3 after 5 distinguished years. He worked for the Department of Health and Human Services for 5 years before moving on to work with the Bellingham School District. He served the Bellingham School District for over 25 years before retiring in 2013. Dad loved and lived in Bellingham for over 40 years becoming a chief advocate for children of impoverished families within the school district. He tirelessly wrote and was granted many Federal grants which helped secure funding for meals and educational materials for children and families in need throughout the year. He also sailed and raced within the Bellingham Yacht Club and attended the Unitarian Fellowship Church. Dad was a man of infinite patience. He put up with his energetic daughter and her never ending ability to conjure boundless energy from nothing. He was a man of great love and the mentor, teacher and friend of his daughter. He is survived by his daughter Heather Thibault, second wife Khore, former wife Judy Thibault, Brothers Mike and Larry Thibault, and Sister Mary Akiyama. The family asks that any flowers or cards be sent to Heather CM Thibault 1601 13th AVE, Apt 315, Seattle, WA 98122. Donations can be made to the Heifer Fund in John Thibault's name. A memorial service is planned, but no dates have yet been set as the family is still deeply saddened by Dad's passing. Inquiries of dates can be mailed to the address above.

To John's Family - please accept the condolences of everyone at Catholic Community Services. John was a wonderful and supportive colleague to us, first during his years at Children's Administration and then in his many years with the schools. Working with John was a pleasure, always. And there was no better advocate for the kids. We join you in sadness at his loss.
