David Joseph Black, also known as "Blacky," of Lancaster, New Hampshire, formerly of Bellingham, and Franklin, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness on July 22, 2025.
Born in Attleboro on March 7, 1959, he was the son of Richard E. Black of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, and Jeanne Godinho Black of St. George, Utah. He was raised in Plainville, Massachusetts, educated in Wrentham, and graduated from King Philip Regional High School, Class of 1977.
Blacky married the love of his life, Maryann DiLeonardo, on June 24, 2000, at their home. They had just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.
Blacky worked for Harley-Davidson for many years before making a career change. He became a member of Local 103 IBEW, based in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from the union's telecom and electrical programs with perfect attendance and was a master electrician licensed in four states.
An avid outdoorsman, Blacky enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He was a certified taxidermist and a Hunter Education instructor. He was also an active member of the Massachusetts Trappers Association, the Massachusetts Sportsmen's Council, and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He belonged to several local rod and gun clubs and enjoyed trap shooting and target practice.
He loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles with his wife and friends, often taking bike runs to Cape Cod, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. A music lover, Blacky also enjoyed live bands and concerts.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maryann Black of Lancaster, New Hampshire; his daughters, Arielle Nicole Black of Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and Christina Catherine Black of New York City; and his grandson, Augustine Black. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard and Michael Black; his sisters, Lisa Black and Marilyn Buxton; and Marilyn's husband, Tim.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 29, at the Charles F. Oteri and Son Funeral Home, 33 Cottage Street, Franklin, with calling hours from 9:00 to 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, Franklin, at 11:00 AM. Burial will be held privately. A reception will follow at 1:00 PM at the Rome Restaurant in Franklin. Please join us in celebrating Blacky's life.

Always smiling and a great friend to meet up with at Wallum Lake R&G. A fantastic electrician who could turn any mess of wires into a work of art. Rest well Blacky!
