Carol Black Obituary
Carol Gault Black of Greenville, beloved wife of Archibald Wells Black, passed away on July 29, 2025.
Born in 1944 and a Greer native, Carol was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.T. Gault.
She graduated from Columbia College and received her master's degree in Communications Disorders from the University of South Carolina. In addition to raising her children and serving her community - including countless SAIL swim teams as her children grew - she was a speech pathologist in the Greenville County and Spartanburg District 5 school districts for many years.
Carol was a faithful member of Buncombe Street Methodist Church and its Roundtable Sunday School class, and a past president of the Hillcrest Garden Club. She treasured her friendships in the Pelham Road Elementary Teachers Book Club, the Friends Bridge and Lunch Club, and the Greer Girls. She especially loved her time being a volunteer "cuddler" who rocked premature babies in the Neonatal ICU at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
In addition to her husband of 56 years, Carol is survived by her precious daughter, Catherine Black Koysza (David) of Mount Pleasant, SC, her four cherished grandchildren, Wells Black III, Cely Black, Caroline Koysza, and Sadie Koysza, and her dear sister, Sharon Gault Benston (Gerry) along with their loving children.
She was predeceased by her courageous son Wells Black Jr., and she rejoices in joining him.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at Buncombe Street Methodist Church. A visitation will follow until 5:00 p.m. in the parlor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Carolina Chapter of the ALS Association, where Carol was active, designated for "Research" and sent to 130 Gardners Circle, PMB 622, Johns Island, SC, 29455.
