Richard Wrigglesworth Obituary

Richard "Rick" Paul Wrigglesworth June 29, 1952 – October 22, 2025 Surfside Beach, SC Richard "Rick" Paul Wrigglesworth, 73, of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on October 22, 2025, while doing what he loved most-boating on a cloudless, sunny day. Though his passing was sudden, his family finds comfort knowing he left this world surrounded by the peace of the open water and the nature he so deeply cherished. Born on June 29, 1952, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Rick was the son of Doreen and Paul Wrigglesworth. He graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1974, where he developed a lifelong passion for the sea. He spent 13 years traveling the world as a Chief Engineer in the Merchant Marines with Sun Oil Company, a Lt. Commander in the Navy Reserve, and a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. Rick's career was marked by adventure and exploration, both on the water and in life. He worked in the maritime industry and traveled the world, always seeking new experiences. Rick's zest for life was contagious. He found joy in the simple things-the stillness of the water, the warmth of the sun, and the sound of laughter shared with loved ones, especially his grandchildren. Known as the "teacher," Rick spent hours teaching his children and grandchildren everything he knew. His sense of humor was legendary, and his ability to make those around him feel welcome and valued was a hallmark of his character. Whether telling stories, cracking jokes, or simply enjoying a peaceful moment on the water, Rick's presence brought light and warmth to everyone he encountered. Those who knew Rick will remember his generous heart, quick wit, and easy-going spirit. He had a gift for making people feel at ease and never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand. Whether he was fixing something, telling a story, or planning his next outing, he did it all with energy, enthusiasm, and a smile. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Doreen and Paul Wrigglesworth, and daughter-in-law Monica Mull. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Barbara Wrigglesworth, whom he celebrated a golden anniversary with on June 21, 2025; his children, Keith(Tara), Sean(Christa), and Brian; his cherished grandchildren, Michaela, Mason, Carley, Ethan, Charlotte, and Joanna; his sisters Cathy Meagan and Paula Farrell, his brother Garth Wrigglesworth; and countless friends who considered him family. Rick's legacy will live on through the memories of his laughter, his love of the sea, and his unwavering spirit of adventure. Though he is gone, his influence will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. Yesterday

I was a 1974 MMA classmate of Rick's and always enjoyed his friendship. He was a dynamic person and a great shipmate. I was sorry that he couldn't make it up to our 50th reunion in Castine last year as I was very much looking forward to seeing him again. RIP
