Margie Cowen Obituary

A memorial service for Margie Louise Cowen, age 94 of Lindale, Texas, is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home Chapel in Lindale with Dr. Mark Neely and Pastor Dave Attebury officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Margie passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. She was born on September 6, 1930, in Borger, Texas to the late James Jefferson and Clara Sue (Beckum) Renfro. Margie has lived in Lindale for over 50 years where she was a member of the Lindale First Baptist Church and worked many years as a teacher's aide for Lindale I.S.D. Ms. Cowen graduated from Littlefield High School and attended Texas Tech University. She married Roland Cowen June 4, 1955. Margie was an accomplished quilter and seamstress. She truly enjoyed reading as well. Margie enjoyed making candy around the holidays and sharing it with her friends. She was one of the ladies that started the quilting group at First Baptist Church and she was a longtime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Red Hat Society and Lindale Garden Club. At church Margie was very active with the senior community and was involved with several of the senior planning committees. Ms. Cowen loved game day and game night at the church. She always made a point of reminding people and asking new comers to participate. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Cowen; brothers, Jimmy and Gene Renfro; and sister, Mary Zoe Owens. Margie is survived by her daughters, Shauna Leonard and husband, John of Tyler and LeNnis Ward and husband, Rick of Longview; grandchildren, Crystal Coomer and Jeff Leonard; great grandchild, Camren Cowan; and numerous other loving family members and friends. She loved spending time with her girls, grandchildren and great-grandson. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dave and Ann Stack. They are truly servants of God and helped her a lot. A special thanks to Shirley Abbott, Beth Praytor, Bonnie Sanders and others for making sure mom didn't miss any activities after she quit driving. Also, the family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of East Texas, Atria Willow Park, Right at Home and Azalea Heights for making Margie's final days as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorial contributions be made to the SENIOR FUND at First Baptist Church in Lindale or an organization of your choice.
