Conway…..George Kimbrough West, Jr. age 81 entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Thursday, September 18, 2025 with his family by his side. He was born on October 12, 1943 in Newport News, Virginia, a son of the late Lt. Cmdr. George Kimbrough West, Sr. and the late Georgie Eloise Hamilton West. Mr. West was raised in a military family having graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in Pennsylvania where he excelled in track, baseball, and swimming. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Arizona State University and the University of South Carolina. Mr. West proudly served in the South Carolina National Guard. In his early career, he taught with the Horry County School District, was a business owner, but eventually followed his dream to serve in law enforcement. He was a graduate of the 189th class of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. As a retired Lieutenant from Horry County Police Department, he dedicated most of his life to protect and serve. Mr. West was a man of God, honor, and wisdom. He stood firm in his selfless love for his family, always protecting them. Mr. West was a man with many talents, most notably his wood carvings. Each unique piece was carved with passion and precision, always given as gifts of love. He followed all professional baseball teams, but especially loved the Atlanta Braves. Mr. West was happiest when fishing offshore, the inlets, and rivers of Horry and Georgetown counties as well as shrimping Bulls Bay with his three sons. He spent his last years with his loyal German Shepherds, Kenai and Leska. Mr. West was predeceased by a nephew, Justin Michael Ricks. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Lenora Dale Hinson West; his children, Kimbrough West (Angie), Matthew West (Shelley), Patrick West (Logan), and Maria Wallace (Jason), all of Conway; and Christopher West of Georgia. Other survivors include his grandchildren, Lauren, Caleb, and Ava West, Blayden and Brylee Bell, Dylan, Chandler, and Chapman West, Ethan, Lincoln,and Presley West, Troy and Wyatt Wallace; great granddaughter, Emma Lawson; a brother, Stephen West (Beth), a sister in law, Edna Earle Ricks, brothers in law, Larry Ricks and David Hinson. Graveside services, officiated by Rev. Rocky Taylor and Stephen West, will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 22, 2025 at Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the home of his son, Cambrough West, up until service time. The address is 101 Ole Nobleman Court, Conway, SC 29527.
