Ronald Joseph Vayo was born on August 12th, 1943, at U.S. Marine Camp Lejeune in
Beaufort, SC, to Sgt. Joseph Vayo and Mildred Holdsworth Vayo. He spent his youth playing baseball, swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, and earning money doing yard work for neighbors. He graduated from Ft. Myers High School in 1962. Then he attended Florida Southern College, where he met his wife, Betsy, of almost 60 years, and earned a double major in Psychology and Business. After college, he worked for 43 years with State Farm Insurance.
Ron & Betsy were married on June 11, 1966, and had a beautiful life together raising their 3 children in
Miami, FL. In addition to Betsy, Ron is survived by his children: Joseph (Jodi), Cynthia (David), Loralynn (Danny), and his grandchildren: Nicole (Zack), Danielle, Jonathan (Leslie), Sarah, Jaclyn (Danny), Jake, Sofia & Nikolas. He was preceded in death by his parents & his brother, Rod & sister, Cheryl.
When Ron wasn't working, He loved opening up his home for parties and celebrations of all kinds with his friends and family. He stayed active playing tennis, traveling, fishing, boating, and spending time with his family. But his real passion was golf. He learned to build golf clubs for himself and others and had a single-digit handicap. Ron's happy place was on the golf course, cracking jokes and having a good laugh with his buddies.
He was an active member and Deacon at Mountain Hill Community Church. He generously served and supported organizations he believed in. He spent summers helping paint and refurbish cottages at Tammassee DAR School. He also volunteered at the local prison through KAIROS Prison Ministry.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, dry sense of humor, generous spirit, and love for Christ.
A memorial service celebrating his life, will be held April 4, 2026, 2:00 p.m., at Mountain Hill Community Church in
Landrum, SC. Following the service, there will be a reception at the church.
