Yvonne Brown Obituary

Yvonne L. Brown, 88, widow of John R. Brown, passed from her earthly body, Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at May River Landing in Bluffton, SC, surrounded by her family.

Yvonne was known for her genuine love and care of her family, friends and anyone in need. She was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and friend to everyone she met. She was affectionately known as "Granny" by her family and many in the community. She worked for Civil Service throughout her life, while simultaneously, raising her children and supporting her husband John as he valiantly served our country.

Yvonne served with SC Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, throughout the US, alongside her husband. She volunteered at her children's and grandchildren's schools and in all their endeavors. She and her husband became guardians to their two young grandsons after the loss of their mother, Kendalynne Brown Warthen. Yvonne always cherished her time with her family and was the happiest when surrounded by those she loved. She will be remembered for her strength, her love of God, devotion to her family, and her unconditional love.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 9:30am with the funeral service to follow at 10:30am- both taking place at Shell Point Baptist Church. Interment will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery at noon where she will lay to rest next alongside her beloved husband.

Afterwards, a meal will be shared back at Shell Point Baptist church, where the family invites all who would like to share stories and their love of Granny.

Yvonne Brown was born on September 30, 1937, in Livonia, MI. She is the daughter of the late Kenneth Harold Garwood and Ethel Bassett Garwood. She is survived by her daughters Sharon O'Connell (John), Kathryn Himes (Christopher), BJ McCown (Christopher) and 2 grandsons whom they raised as their own Kenneth (Kari) and Kyle (Rachel) Warthen, daughters-in-law Mary Brown and Debbie Brown, Sister Sandra Garwood Mooney (Bill) and Brother Warren Alden Garwood (Marie). Yvonne is also survived by 15 more grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 1 great- great grandchild.

Yvonne Brown joins in eternal rest her parents, spouse John, children Richard Brown, Kendalynne Brown Warthen and Robert Brown, Grandson Christopher Scott Cato, Brothers Calvin Garwood, Kenneth Garwood, Dale Garwood, Sisters Evelyn Garwood Harvard, Jean Collins Redmond, and Beverly Garwood Sult.
