Lacy Bullard Obituary

Lacy F. Bullard, of Beaufort, SC, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, at Friends of Caroline Hospice. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on January 14, 1935, to Byron and Helen Folmar.

Lacy spent most of her life in Tallahassee, Florida, where she worked as a reporter and garden editor for the Tallahassee Democrat for many years. She also wrote a number of books and educational pamphlets. and later dedicated her talents to nonprofit organizations as a grant writer, helping secure funding that supported the preservation and restoration of historic buildings across Florida.

Lacy moved to Marshall, North Carolina, to care for her daughter during her illness. In later years, she settled in Beaufort, where she formed many close friendships and generously gave her time to a variety of charitable causes.

Lacy had a deep love for travel and the outdoors. She was especially known for her quick wit and passion for gardening and quilting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Hunter, her sister, Annette Wiles and her nephew, Mike McElroy. She is survived by her sister, Jane McDonald of Tysons Corner, Virginia; her niece, Debbie Wiles; her nephews, Brad McElroy and Doug Wiles; grand nieces Lindsay Gramana and Ashley Hatheway and numerous extended family members.

The family extends special thanks to the staff at Sprenger Health Care in Port Royal and Friends of Caroline Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Lacy's final months.

A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
