Paul Peters Obituary
Paul Benjamin Peters IV, 38, of Indian Trail, NC, tragically drowned on July 4, 2025, while rescuing his sons from a dangerous riptide at Hunting Island, SC. A devoted husband and father, Paul was a hero that day. His family extends deep gratitude to the kind-hearted individuals at Hunting Island Beach who assisted in the rescue efforts.
Born on February 22, 1987, at Bridgeport Hospital in Connecticut, Paul grew up in Trumbull, CT, Scarborough, ME, and later Charlotte, NC. At Providence High School, he was a standout student-athlete, participating in football, lacrosse, and wrestling, and was a member of the National Honor Society. He went on to double major in Economics and Physics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his master's degree in Data Analytics from Penn State University.
For the past nine years, Paul worked at Cigna, most recently serving as a Financial Analysis Senior Advisor. He also served as president of his homeowners' association, driven by a desire to improve his community and make a difference. Paul was known for his integrity, sense of service, and unwavering loyalty. He was often called on to help family members with financial decisions, technology, or lifting heavy things.
He will be remembered for his bright, infectious smile and selflessness. Paul was a brilliant and fun-loving man who found joy in spending quality time with his family. He was an active and involved father who loved being with his sons and wife above anything else. He also enjoyed running, hiking, and biking. You could often find him listening to an audiobook while cleaning, playing with his boys, or checking in on his stocks or dragons!
Paul and Emily started dating in 2011 and were married in Chattanooga, TN, in 2017. He is survived by his beloved wife, Emily Peters, and their children Ezra and Asher; his parents, Ellen and Paul Peters III of Indian Land, SC; his sister Stacey Constant (Joe) of Clover, SC; and nieces Miriam and Josie Constant.
Additional family members that will continue to keep Paul's memory alive include Emily's mother, Lisa DiMaggio (Galin) of Lucama, NC; her father, Randall Cornelius (Tammy) of Maylene, AL; her sister Amanda Hampton (Robbie) of Clayton, NC; and nephews, Brody Hampton and Bryce and Blaise DeBeaumont
Paul was cremated, and a celebration of his life will be held at Sun City Carolina Lakes – Lake House Ballroom on July 13 at 1:00 PM.
