Lenora Walters Obituary

Lenora Freeman "Nora" Walters, 89, a beloved mother and widow of Samuel Aventer Walters, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at her residence.

Mrs. Walters was born the daughter of Lucious Rutherford Freeman and Retha McCants Freeman, on November 2, 1931 in Williamsburg County. She born the third child of eight siblings: Otis, Barbara, Darwin, Lavern, Frankie, Lorin, and Don. She was a 1949 graduate of Andrews High School. She was a retired Clerk and Treasurer for the City of Georgetown for over 25 years. She served on the Georgetown City Council for over 20 years and was in city's history the first female Mayor Pro-Tem for the City of Georgetown. She was a faithful member of the Duncan United Methodist Church since 1952 and has served on numerous church committees and ministries including the United Methodist Women. Ms. Nora was a gifted and skilled organizer who wore many hats and accomplished her tasks with excellence. With pride and honor, she wore the hats of: a devoted wife; loving mother and grandmother; cherished sister and friend; a trusted advisor and teacher; a humble servant, worker, and member; and a loyal sister in Christ. As written in Proverbs 31:29, "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all."

Nora and Sam were married on August 31, 1952 and shared 61 years together. Their home was blessed with: one son, Samuel Aventer "Sammy" Walters, Jr. (Jackie); two granddaughters, Lindsey D. Walters-Battle (Kirk), and Dr. Laura E. Walters; one grandson, Michael Walters "Walt" Battle. She is also survived by: two siblings, Frankie Hampton and Donald "Don" Freeman (Frances); and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by: her parents; her husband; five siblings, Otis Freeman, Barbara Weaver, Darwin Freeman, Lavern Freeman, and Lorin Freeman.

A Home Going Celebration will be 11 AM, Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford. Interment directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home will follow in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.

The Walters family will receive family and friends 5-8PM, Friday evening, October 22, 2021 in the sanctuary of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church.

Covid precautions are requested.

With my deepest Condolences on the passing of my friend Lenora. She was a very nice & kind lady; I can remember her on City Council. A person who you could go to when you needed to speak to someone who represent the City of Georgetown.
She was always a pleasant person.
