Lena Nesbitt Obituary

Margaret Lena Connelly Nesbitt, 98, the widow of Otto Eugene Nesbitt, Sr., finished her earthly journey on Wednesday evening, March 2, 2023, at her residence surrounded by many friends and loved ones.

Mrs. Nesbitt was born the daughter of Julius James Connelly and Sylvia Ann Laura Duncan Connelly on July 6, 1924, at the family homestead in the Indian Hut community of Andrews SC. She was the first born of five siblings: Alice Tanner, Bill Connelly, June Connelly, and Robert Connelly. She was a graduate of Andrews High School. She was a lifelong member of the Bethel United Methodist Church. She married Otto on May 31, 1944. Lena was a woman of strong beliefs, physical and mental fortitude, and yet was a mother and nurturer to many hearts and lives over nearly a 100-year life span. She always had time to play cards and board games with anyone who dare take her challenge. She was very understanding to the needs of her family and friends, but sometimes before she could be interrupted, she needed to finish a good book, a crossword or word search puzzle, or just reading her latest "scandal sheets" (The National Enquirer or The Globe). In earlier years she loved to garden, ride the country roads, and be surrounded by nature, but as years passed, she enjoyed watching the squirrels playing, the birds singing, and especially just sitting around reminiscing with family and friends. In hard times she was never shaken, in dark times she was never weakened, and in times of joy, she smiled bigger and laughed louder.

Her greatest treasure was her family and home which was blessed with: seven children, Otto "Buster" Nesbitt, Jr. (Pam), Julius "Butch" Nesbitt (Judy), Debbie Hobgood (Allen), Steve Nesbitt (Karen), Richard "Ricky" Nesbitt (Regina), Timothy "Timmy" Nesbitt, and Julie Whitmire (Billy); thirteen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren, and eighteen great-great-grandchildren. Loved as her own, Larry Hutt and Richard Clark.

She was predeceased by: her parents; her husband; three sons, Steve, Timmy, and Ricky; and all her siblings.

A Service of Death and Resurrection will be 2PM, Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the Bethel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery directed by McKenzie Funeral Home.

The Nesbitt family greet family and friends from 1-2 PM prior to the service in the church fellowship hall and after the service at a Reception in honor of Mrs. Nesbitt.

McKenzie Funeral Home is honored to serve the Nesbitt family.
