Joseph Camp Obituary

Joseph E Camp Sr, aged 85, of Pawleys Island South Carolina passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. Joe was born February 6, 1936 in Greenville, S.C. to the late Hope Hull Camp and Christine Vickery Camp. Joe graduated from Greenville High School and then to Furman University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology (1958). Upon graduation Joe secured an appointment to Naval Officer Candidate School, Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island. Joe spent ten years in the Navy being stationed in Charleston, SC, several European countries, and his final port of call Cape Canaveral Florida. After his Naval service, Joe attended Florida State University earning his Master's in Business Administration Manga Cum Laude. Joe entered the banking industry spending over 15 years rising through ranks to Executive Vice President of International Lending. In 1985, Joe moved back to his home state of South Carolina after being appointed by the then governor Richard Riley to run the South Carolina Jobs Economic Development Authority. During this time Joe developed an interest in real estate and real estate appraisal work. This interest took Joe to Pawleys Island where he developed and built a very successful appraisal school through his JT&T Consulting practice. Joe very much enjoyed teaching and the working relationships he built with his students. Joe was a proud Rotarian. Additionally, he was a quiet philanthropist giving time and resources to the Boys and Girls Club of America, the Wounded Warrior Project, and many other organizations. Joe is survived by his sons; Joe Camp Jr (Seattle, WA.), Tim Camp (Spartanburg, S.C.), and Thomas Camp (Pensacola, FL). His brother Hope Hull Camp, Jr (San Antonio, TX) and his sister Caroline Crow Evans (Memphis TN). And his grandchildren; Shaw Camp, Lundy Camp, Joseph Camp III, Mencken Camp, Caroline Camp, and Jackson Camp. Funeral services followed by visitation with family and friends will at the Grand Strand Church of Christ, Surfside Beach, S.C. at 11:00am Saturday, January 29, 2022. Joe will be buried along-side his parents in the Woodlawn Park Cemetery, Greenville S.C. at 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 30, 2022 In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to Joe's church, Grand Strand Church of Christ.
