John William Campbell
Orange Park, FL - John William "Jackie" Campbell, age 90, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away at his home on February 17, 2026. A "cradle Baptist," John was born on February 15, 1936, in Charleston, South Carolina, to James A. and Marion (Beaty) Campbell.
He graduated in 1955 from the original Winyah High School in Georgetown, South Carolina, where he played snare drum in the marching band. After high school, John served a few years in the National Guard and did various jobs around town, including as a DJ at the local radio station. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1958 and served 26 years. John was a Plank Owner of the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67); was stationed at Holy Loch, Scotland, in the early '60s; and spent 17 years at Cecil Field before it closed in 1999. In retirement, John spent time in his workshop on his "latest project," traveled on many wonderful cruises with his wife and family, and enjoyed "playing" on his computer. He also loved animals, jigsaw puzzles, and watching the Florida Gators.
John was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Elizabeth Main, and son-in-law J. Jeffrey Wittig.
John is survived by his beloved wife of over 63 years, Martha Lea (Main) Campbell; sister Alice J. McDonell (Woody); children Martha "Mickie" Wittig, Marion "Lisa" Cundiff (Larry), and John W. Campbell, Jr. (Carla); three grandchildren Amanda, Kelsey and Sydney; and three great-grandchildren.
