Edward Kawczynski Obituary

Edward ("Ed") J. Kawczynski, P.E., 84, of Beaufort, South Carolina, and formerly of New Jersey and Maryland, died peacefully on May 5, 2025. He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Barbara, and his daughter, Kristen. He is survived by his son, John, his daughter-in-law, Heidi, as well as their two children, AJ and Jules. Ed graduated from the Newark College of Engineering (now the New Jersey Institute of Technology) in 1962 with a degree in civil engineering. During most of his career, Ed was involved in the early days of microwave and satellite telecommunications. He helped build the network that allowed for the launch of USA Today and the national publication of The New York Times. He was granted a patent for one of his innovative solutions while working with Federal Express. Towards the end of his career, Ed worked internationally and also helped with the nation's response to September 11th. After his retirement, Ed moved to Beaufort. Here, he enjoyed his passions for photography, art, and travel. He especially loved his photography expedition to Cuba. A celebration of life service will be held at the Parish Church of Habersham, 100 North Market Street, Beaufort, on May 31st at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be private at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beaufort-Jasper YMCA of the Lowcountry, 1801 Richmond Avenue, Port Royal, SC 29935
