Dorothy Rucker Obituary

Dorothy "Dot" Ridgeway Rucker, 84, widow of Charley Esther Rucker, Jr., of Beaufort, SC, died Monday, March 9, 2026 in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 11:00am in Carl Anderson Memorial Chapel.

Private burial in Beaufort National Cemetery.

Mrs. Rucker was born on June 26, 1941 in Davis Station, SC. She is the daughter of the late Horace Ridgeway and Maggie Dennis.

Dot worked for 50+ years as an RN, retiring from Beaufort Memorial Hospital after 20+ years. Her love and care for people is what brought her joy. She volunteered her time for several organizations with Easter Seals being one that touched her family personally. Dot also enjoyed serving many roles on committees and volunteering at the Baptist Church of Beaufort. She was a member of the Winsome Sunday School class.

Surviving is two daughters, Brenda Rucker of Beaufort and Shelli Akins (Jeff Akins) of Statesboro, Ga, one sister, Carolyn Minner of Marietta, Ga; two grandchildren CJ Akins of Charleston, SC, and Rebekah Feigh (Adam) and one great grandchild Charleigh Feigh of Grand Junction, CO.

Dot was a true nurse leader in the fullest sense of the word. She went above & beyond to serve her patients & her nursing staff. She was held in the highest respect by her colleagues. She was always available to share her wisdom for any given situation. Dot handled every situation with grace. She will be greatly missed.
