Barney Seigler Obituary

Barney Geiger Seigler, 79, of Seabrook, SC, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at his residence.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 23, 2026 at 12:30pm at Anderson Funeral Home. The funeral services will follow at 2:00pm in Carl Anderson Memorial Chapel to be followed by a private family burial in Live Oak Cemetery in Walterboro, SC with military honors.

Barney was born on August 13, 1946 in Walterboro, SC. He is the son of the late John Barney Seigler and Ernestine Geiger Seigler.

Surviving is one son, Michael B. Seigler, one daughter, Tammy Seigler Walker; one sister, Lynette Peeples; three grandchildren Allison Stepp, Ashley Finley, Andrew Seigler, and one great grandchild Mazie Finley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Stanley Hahm Seigler; and one grandchild Alexander Lee Seigler.

Barney retired as Master Sergeant from the South Carolina National Guard with 40 years of service.

He dedicated many years of his life to protecting and serving his community through his work in the fire service. He began with the New Prospect Fire Department and later served as Fire Chief of the Inman City Fire Department. He went on to become a founding member of the Inman Community Fire Department, where he also served as Fire Chief. He concluded his fire service career in 2026 with the Sheldon Fire District in Beaufort, bringing to a close 56 years of dedicated service.

In addition to his fire service, he also served three separate terms as the President of the Spartanburg County Fire Chiefs' Association and was inducted into the Spartanburg County Fire Chiefs' Association Hall of Fame in 2018. In 1997 he was awarded the Hans T. Walker award (Spartanburg County Fire Chief of the year). Throughout his years of service, he was not only a respected leader but also a devoted servant to his community and a mentor to many, guiding and inspiring the next generation of firefighters with wisdom, integrity, and compassion.

The Sheldon Fire District members will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Disabled American Veterans.
