Barbara Nettles Obituary

Barbara Ann Nettles, the daughter of Eric and Belle Youmans, gained her angel wings on the morning of June 9th, 2025 at the young age of 90. Barbara loved God, her husband James, family and friends. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Debra (Furman) McQuillen and Tammy (KT) Tully, 7 Grand Children, 11 Great Grand Children, and 1 Great Great Grand Child. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her son, Dennis Nettles, and her brothers, Robert and Wyman Youmans. Barbara and James spent 67 loving years together, raising children, and serving their church and community. After his passing she continued the traditions of waving to many from her porch and serving the church during fellowship. She was known by many for her unwavering kindness and commitment to others. Barbara loved playing cards with family and was known for her biscuits, sweet tea, famous macaroni and cheese and her love of Frogmore Stew (especially crab legs!). If she wasn't found locally, she would have been off on a vacation to Tennessee or other places. Barbara was welcoming to all and would often adopt many into her family of love. Barbara graduated from Hampton High School and after raising her children she worked as a caregiver for many older people in the community. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Port Royal Baptist Church so they may continue her legacy of caring for others. She was the best daughter, sister, mother and friend, may her life serve as an example for all and her legacy continue through us all. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 11:00am in Port Royal Baptist Church.
