Barbara Blocker Obituary

Barbara Ann Blocker, 91, widow of Leyonard Blocker, of Beaufort, SC, died Thursday, June 5, 2025 in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 11:30am at Anderson Funeral Home with a Chapel service to follow at 1pm in Carl Anderson Memorial Chapel with interment to follow in Beaufort Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Blocker was born on November 4, 1933 in Ridgeland, SC. She is the daughter of the late Robert Rowell and Ruby Dean Rowell.
Known to most as "Miss Ann", she and Leyonard opened Blocker's Grocery in 1955 and operated that business for over 30 years. Located on St. Helena Island, they nurtured it into a fixture in the community. With her bright smile and warm wit she became friends with most customers. She loved gardening, working in her yard, quilting, and fishing. She was a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Keith Blocker (Dawn); two grandchildren, Adam Keith Blocker and Chase Austen Blocker, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Sheryl Blocker, three brothers, Leo, Curtis and Frankie Rowell, four sisters, Myrtle Rowell Smith, Mamie Lou Rowell Blocker, Evelyn Rowell Crews and Eva Mae Rowell Calhoun.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hosptial or Operation Christmas Child.
