I am so saddened to hear this news and want the family to know how sorry I am for your huge loss. I was a Physical Education teacher with Charleston county for 32 years and Dave was our leader the last 10.
He was our encourager, our support and motivator. He stood up for us and made us proud of our profession at a time when we didn´t know if we still had a job from year to year.
He was happy, kind and energetic. He would make us feel better as we came back from summer vacation reluctantly for a new year.
No one gave us pep talks like him.
He also lined up some great activities for us. Kayaking on Shem Creek was a great way to start the school year.
I know you all will miss him and Susan, what a beautiful husband you had. True love for 50 years!
I´m glad he was peaceful on his way out. You all take care of each other and the pups. I would say Dave had a great life doing what he loved.

Very sorry to learn of Coach Spurlock's passing. Thoroughly enjoyed knowing David through many years of coaching against his teams. He was a fine Coach and Man.

Sorry for your loss. Dave was a good friend and gentleman. I had the honor of playing football with him a No. Chas. High School. May God comfort and give you peace during this trying time.

Dear Susan, Jennifer, and Zack,
I intended to be at the service for Dave today, but woke up not feeling well -- maybe coming down with Covid. I was so disappointed that I could not attend to be able to see you all and express my condolences.
I thought so much of Coach Spurlock and enjoyed the many years he and I taught at St. Andrew's High School. Dave was such a special person and everyone, including his students and athletes, loved him!
Dave Spurlock was a wonderful person, teacher, coach, husband, father, grandfather, brother, mentor, and good friend. May the memories and
life that he had with you sustain you through the coming days.
Hopefully, I can visit you sometime, Susan, when you feel like it. Remember me to Jennifer and Zack because I loved teaching both of them.

Coach Spurlock aka Pops will be so dearly missed. He was a great coach and so important to our football team boys. He was a great family man and a kind soul. Rest In Peace

Always loved and respected Coach Spurlock. He poured into his athletes for as long as I knew him!

Played Football for Coach during his last year at Garrett High School. Great Coach who wore me out in the weight room with (give me one more lift!) more than few times. I saw Coach wrestle the Bear live at the Coastal Carolina Fair! Which at the time was in Garrett HS back yard.
There are many young boys who went on to be better men by your example. My thoughts and prayers for your family during the hard days ahead.

The Spurlock family please have my condolences in the passing of Coach Spurlock. he was a good individual and a nice teacher during my years at St Andrews Parish High School in years of 1985-1989. He will be missed in the community lots of memories to cherish as his student.

Fond memories of Coach Spurlock while my daughter was a student at West Ashley High School. Coach Spurlock wore many hats and one was Driver's Ed Instuctor that gave her invaluable support.

As a fledgling new Athletic Athletic Director at North Charleston High School in the early 90's, Dave was always "just a phone call away." His willingness to listen and mentor so many of us was a testament to his passion and his character. I was honored to be his friend. My sincerest condolences to his family and his many former players. RIP, Coach.
