William Searson Obituary

William Searson III CHARLESTON - William Bagot Searson III, 86, of Charleston, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. He was the husband of Sharron Allen Searson and the son of the late William Bagot Searson, Jr. and the late Dorothy Rodgers Searson of Meggett, SC. He was born on April 28, 1937 at Riverside Infirmary in Charleston, SC. Mr. Searson attended St. Paul's High School, Hollywood, SC but graduated from the preparatory high school of Georgia Military College, Milledgeville, GA. He completed his freshman year at the The Citadel and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1960 with a BS degree in Geology. He retired as Maintenance Officer from the Charleston County School District after 25 years of service. He was a past member of the Hollywood Exchange Club, James Island Yacht Club, SC School Plant Management Assoc., SC Historical Society and the Charleston Elks. He served as vestryman at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Meggett, treasurer at St. Alban's Epsicopal Church, Kingstree; junior warden and layreader at St. John's (Oakland) Episcopal Church, Charleston; senior warden, layreader and parish agent at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Charleston. He also attended several Diocesan Conventions as a delegate. He began his service to the church as an acolyte at St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church in Anniston, AL at the age of 6. Mr. Searson was the author of the book "From the Land of Vikings", a genealogical record of the Searson family in South Carolina. Mr. Searson is survived by his wife, Sharron Searson; four children: Andrea L. Searson of Charleston, Hope S. Picquet (LaMotte) of Hollywood, William B. Searson, IV (Sherry) of Ravenel, and Tracy S. Causby (Mike) of Charleston; six grandchildren: Travis Picquet (Ashley), Morgan P. Howell (Frank), Parrish Clontz, Dylan Searson (Kristi), Kole Searson, Caroline Searson; great-grands: Trayce Picquet, Riley Picquet, Skyler Picquet, and Holly Howell; two step-children: Denice Ann Jones (Michael) of Williamsburgh, VA, David Allen Graham (Anna) of Beaufort. He was predeceased by his first wife, Llewellyn Donaldson Searson, on July 16 2012. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at Christ-St. Paul's Church, 4981 Chapel Rd., Hollywood, SC, on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 1 o'clock. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Summerville from 6 to 8 o'clock on Thursday, December 7, 2023. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: Christ-St. Paul's Anglican Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 426, Hollywood, SC 29449.
