William Calvin Phillips, III
Mount Pleasant - William "Bill" Calvin Phillips III, 83, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on March 7, 2026. Born in Augusta, Georgia, he was the son of the late William Calvin Phillips Jr. and Louisa George Phillips of North Augusta, South Carolina. Bill served in the Army National Guard, attended the University of South Carolina, and worked in the Audio Visual Department at MUSC for 35 years. He was devoted to his family and friends, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was often the heart of any gathering. He enjoyed time on the water, especially boating and fishing, loved animals, and was a devoted Gamecock fan.
Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia "Ginny" Houghton Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Karen Phillips; his sister, Paula (David) Rickerson; his brother, Jack Phillips; his stepchildren, Margaret Funderburk Lee and Brandon Nichols; his grandchildren, Scott (Jackie) Lee, James Chandler Lee, and Elliott Lee; his great-granddaughter, Wendy; and his nieces, Vanessa Luke and Kimberly Rickerson.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Charleston Animal Society.
