William Ormsby Obituary

ORMSBY €'' William Nicholas Jr., 82, of Hyannis, died Saturday Morning at the V.A. Hospital in Providence, RI, after a long illness. He was the husband of the ''Love of his Life:'' the late Nancy O'Neil Ormsby. Bill was raised in Newton and Attended Rivers Country Day School and Babson College. During WWII, he served in the 3rd Division Army Infantry and was an honorable recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. After his distinguished career, he joined the family business, coached football at Rivers and was a longtime member of the Oyster Harbors Club. He was a dedicated golfer, a pilot and a self-described crossword puzzle expert. In his later years, he took great pride in helping troubled youths as a member of the Mechanics Society and also his job in the Student Development Department of Cape Cod Community College. His survivors include twin daughters, Robin Ormsby of New York City and Carey Georgia Ormsby of Hyannis, the mother of his grandchildren, Carey Georgia of Hyannis, and Michael William of Beverly Hills, CA; his sister Mary Griffin of Osterville, as well as many nieces and nephews. We will miss his unique personality, extraordinary generosity and his love of life and laughter. Bill was a loyal and caring man who touched all who had the pleasure of his friendship. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, September 16, 10 a.m. at the St. Francis Xavier Church 347 South Street, Hyannis, followed by the burial in the Beechwood Cemetery corner of Route 28 and Stagecoach Road, Centerville. To Uncle Billy's Family:

My condolences for your loss. Your father/grandfather was "Uncle Billy" to me. I am the son of John Farrell Ormsby, whose father was John G. Ormsby, Billy's dad's (William Sr.) brother. I last saw your dad at our family home in Westwood about five years ago at Thanksgiving. As usual, he displayed his legendary conversation skills, wit and charm. He was kind of enough to present my brother Gregory and me with a framed print of your grandfather/great-grandfather, William Sr., in a team photo with the Brown University football team from the 1916 Rose Bowl. The print is proudly displayed in both my brother and my house. I wish you all the best in the coming days.
