William Gilley Obituary

William R. "Bill" Gilley OCALA, FL - William "Bill" Rayford Gilley, 78, of Ocala, Fl passed away May 5th, 2017. He was born October 1st, 1938 in Whitesburg, GA to Charlie T. Gilley and Evie L. Gilley. Bill was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy for 35 years. He retired in 1976 from the USS Hunley in Charleston, SC and finished his career at the Naval Shipyard in the electronics shop. He then permanently retired to Ocala in 1993. He sailed many years in the "big pond" and saw many countries in his career. Bill made a lasting impression on everyone he met in his lifetime. He loved family gatherings, gardening, wood working and cooking. Famously known for his cheesecakes! He was a diehard Green Bay Packer fan and loved watching and going to NASCAR races. He was a long time Richard Petty fan! He was predeceased by his parents, sister Mary Collins and son Ricky Gilley. Bill is survived by his wife, Libby of 22 years; beloved daughter, Karen Gilley-Pyle (Alan). Brothers Charles Gilley and Clifford Gilley (Carolyn); Sister Carolyn Weldon (Jerry); combined family, Debra Caulder, Frankie Mullis, Theresa Malinowsky, Eddie Miller, Neenie Waczkowski, and Patty Dinges,. 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, plus several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Saturday, May 13th at the Roberts Bruce West Chapel, 6241 SW State Road 200, in Ocala, FL. Visitation on Friday at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00pm.
