Wilhelmenia Gantt Obituary

Wilhelmenia Gordon Gantt CHARLESTON - Entered into the joy of eternal life with her Maker on the morning of December 5, 2013, Mrs. Wilhelmenia Gordon Gantt, the beloved wife of Christopher C. Gantt, Jr. Mrs. Gantt was born in Charleston County, the cherished only child of the late Peter and Anna Smalls Gordon. She was educated in the public schools of the county and in the city at Burke High School. In 1942, she started down a path to fulfill her lifelong calling when she married Christopher Gantt. In this union she became the excellent and consummate mother of five children, doting grandmother of eight and proud great-grandmother of nine that made her a beloved matriarch. Her greatest joy was in guiding and protecting her brood through playtime, school time, community activities and in activities at the Morris Street Baptist Church. Her maternal instincts also led her to become the "other mother" to many of her children's friends and to several of the younger members of her church family. In addition to her husband she is survived by one son, Harvey B. Gantt (Lucinda) of Charlotte, NC and three daughters: Aundria Gantt Douglas, Gloria Gantt Wilford and Chrysandra Gantt Holloway (Collis) all of Charleston. She was predeceased by her youngest daughter Deanna T. Gantt in 1978. The family will be receiving friends at: 1613 Amberly Road, Charleston, SC. Funeral Notice Later. Services of Comfort entrusted to the care of WALKER'S MORTUARY "CHAPEL OF PEACE," 3407 Old Pond Road, John's Island, SC. Phone: (843) 559-0341, FAX: (843) 559-3415. On behalf of the Wright Family (Reginald Sr., Dorothy, Reginald Jr., Orlando, and Caroline), I extend our deepest sympathy and our prayers for your strength during this most difficult time.

Deacon C. C. Gantt and Family
It is with deep sadness to learn of Mother Gantt's transition from earth to her heavenly home. She was loved by many and will be missed. I would always pay her a visit every time that I would come to Charleston. I will miss our chats. She was like a mother to me and always guided me when I needed guidance about many things. God will strengthen all of you during this difficult time in your lives. God Bless the Family.
