Vivian Scarberry Obituary

Vivian Irene Scarberry SUMMERVILLE - Vivian Irene Scarberry, 91, of Summerville, widow of Paul D. Scarberry, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at her residence. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 1100 a.m. at Dorchester Presbyterian Church, 10290 Dorchester Road, Summerville. Friends and family are invited to gather after the service in the Fellowship Hall for visitation. Vivian was born on March 5, 1922 in Akron, OH daughter of the late Theodore Garrett and Winna Sellars Garrett. She was a graduate of Kenmore High School in Akron, OH. As an Air Force wife, she travelled the world with Paul and Kathy. Whether swimming under the moon in Athens, riding a camel in the desert of Baghdad, motor scootering over the Alps, or hiking and camping in Hawaii, she welcomed adventure. Following her retirement as a bookkeeper with the Charleston Air Force Base Commissary, she, Paul and the family built their vacation retreat on the Edisto River where four generations have loved gathering for relaxation and holidays. She was a member of Dorchester Presbyterian Church and was involved with the Presbyterian Women where she enjoyed their fellowship, crafting and serving others. Surviving are: One Daughter: Katherine Sue Worthington of Summerville; Two Granddaughters: Tina Irene Worthington Schumacher and Jennifer Worthington Hilton (Jason), both of Summerville; Three Great Grandchildren: Michael Paul Schumacher, Mary Katherine Schumacher and Vivian Rose Hilton all of Summerville; Son-in-law: Jack D. Worthington of Summerville; One Sister: Shirley Ann Garrett Ondack (Chuck); Sister-in-law: Grace Scarberry; Five Nieces and Nephews: Linda Pullin, Richard Woodward, Rob Woodward, Jr., Dale Scarberry and Carol Bailey and their extended families. She was predeceased by her sister, Arlene Shaver. She will also be missed by her sweet cat, Prissy. Special thanks go to her doctors and the wonderful caregivers from AllCare Living Services, and Heartland Hospice. Flowers will be accepted but donations may also be made to Dorchester Presbyterian Church in memory of Vivian.
