Virginia Dixon, at age 89 years old passed away on January 9, 2026, at her home in
Summerville, South Carolina. Virginia was born on July 27, 1936 in Horry County and grew up in Bayboro, SC, the daughter of the late Edward David Rabon and Reba Graham Rabon. She was predeceased by her mother and father and by two brothers and four sisters. She has one younger sister, Pearline Parker, who lives in Myrtle Beach, SC. Virginia spent her childhood with her family in Bayboro who were farmers. As farmers, the family planted a variety of crops but primarily cropped tobacco to make a living.
Virginia would tell stories about when she was a small child; she would stand on wood boxes to help crop tobacco in the fields. As a child, she would also help cook while they rest of the family was working. Virginia often spoke of her childhood and how children in those days worked in the fields to help the family. She would often comment on how back then times were quiet, simple, and without the troubles in the world today. Virginia graduated with honors from Conway High School, married young, and immediately moved to Charleston where she raised her four children. After moving to Charleston, she had a couple of jobs for a short period but decided it would best serve her family to be a stay-at-home mom. Her commitment to being a stay-at-home mother helped her children in a great manner as she would help with homework and be able to prepare meals and give baths.
Virginia, along with her children, spent countless hours at the ball fields enjoying various sports: baseball, football, basketball, cheer leading, and any other activity the children were involved in. Around 1972, Virginia took a job at North Charleston City Hall as a Purchase Administrator. In 1978, she went to work for Charleston Supply / AIS INC. as a purchasing agent, and she retired from them in 1998.
Virginia enjoyed being outside. She spent much of her time doing yard work, planting flowers and pruning plants. She often commented that when she was outside doing yard work, she was in her own little world. She loved getting on the lawn mower and mowing until dark. Working in the yard was her happy place. Virginia also enjoyed baking cakes and decorating them. Virginia loved to square dance and was delighted to be in a Christian environment to enjoy.
Virginia enjoyed her retirement and stayed very busy. In her early 80's she stayed very active. Unfortunately in 2017, she was diagnosed with liver disease which quickly disabled her active personality. Virginia was required to seek regular medical attention on many occasions and had several lengthy hospital stays which wore her down. While Virginia never gave up, she has been very ill for the last several years
Virginia is a Christian who loved the Lord. Over her lifetime, Virginia has attended several churches of Christian Faith and assisted in the children's ministries. For the last few years, she attended Deliverance Tabernacle Ministries in Summerville. She adored the Pastors and all of the loving people in this Church. Virginia will be missed but she is now with the Lord, no more sickness, no more pain, no more worries, and she can now live in paradise forever.
A visitation of family and friends will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 11am to 12pm at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 12:00pm in the Chapel. Burial will immediately follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens.
