Steve Moskos Obituary

MOSKOS, Steve Steve Moskos, 75, of Charleston, died Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at his home. Born November 25, 1931 in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late Constantine and Mary Moskos. He proudly served his country in the US Navy and was a Korean War veteran. Steve was a 1958 graduate of the University of South Carolina. He retired in 1992 after 31 years as a pharmaceutical sales representative with Pfizer Laboratories. A man of many talents, Steve had several business ventures including: a restaurant in Charleston, an ice cream parlor in Hanahan, independent cosmetic sales in Columbia, and a trophy shop in Charleston. Steve was a firm believer in community service. He served as president, vice-president, and treasurer of the local Order of AHEPA (American Hellenic Education Progressive Association), a community association founded in 1923 to help new immigrants learn the language and responsibilities of being an American citizen. He served as a District Governor and as a Supreme Governor at the national level. He was also a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the AHEPA National Education Foundation. His focus with AHEPA included encouraging education through scholarships for young people and developing low income housing for senior citizens. He was active with the Exchange Club of Charleston and worked at the Coastal Carolina Fair each year. He was a member of the Charleston Elks Lodge, the College of Charleston Cougar Club, the Palmetto Touchdown Club, and the Greek Orthodox Church of Holy Trinity. He also served on the South Carolina Athletic Commission as a boxing Commissioner. Steve was a long standing member of the Republican Party and was instrumental in establishing a two party system in South Carolina in the early 1960's. He also served on the Commissioners of Public Works from 1975-1978. His wife of 27 years, Lena E. Boomie Moskos (nee Fletcher), preceded him in death in 1985. Steve is survived by one son: C. Steven Dino Moskos and his wife, Karen, of Charleston; two daughters: Helen Bykalo and husband, David, of Columbia, SC and Stephanie Moskos-Hall and her husband, Corey, of Goose Creek; a sister: Vasiliki Moskos, M.D. of Charleston and seven grandchildren: Christen M. Moskos, Steven G. Moskos, Michael H. Moskos, Maria K. Bykalo, Julia A. Bykalo, Lena S. Hall and Basil A.C. Hall. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street, Charleston. Interment with military honors will follow at Bethany Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Steve Moskos Scholarship Fund, 535 Stinson Dr., Charleston, SC 29407. Dear Helen, Dino, and Stephanie,
I was so sorry to hear about your Dad. I would have come to the funeral, but I didn't even know that he had passed away until after the service.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know how sorry I am and that I would have come if I'd only known....
my sympathies to everyone in the family!

Dear Moskos and Moskos-Hall family:

Words cannot express my feelings at the falling asleep in Christ of Steve Moskos. I had the privilege of knowing Steve for several years and most recently saw him at Sam's Club a month or so ago. He was a fine man, a faithful Christian, and devoted father and grandfather to his family. He was in all things a gentleman and a worthy role model for us all.

While we all grieve at losing him in this life, through the mercy of God we will celebrate with him again on the Day of Resurrection!

May his memory be eternal!

Sad news, reading of Steves death. I have not seen him since I retired, but he called on various clinics that I practiced at over the last 15 years or so, he also helped me so much with the state P.A. programs in providing professional lectures and funding from Phizer. I always enjoyed seeing him and we had many good vists, I will miss him and will remember him in my prayers, and to his family, may the Lord help you through these difficult times.

Stephanie, I am so sorry to learn of the death of your dad. I am in Germany for four months but got an e-mail and also read it in Charleston.net. I saw Steve a short time before I left at Town and Country and went over and sat down and had a short talk with him. Seeing him was how I kept up with news of you. My love, thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Love, Sondra Pfaehler(Alana's mother)
