Shirley Kreyling Obituary

Shirley Karen Kreyling KIAWAH ISLAND - Shirley Karen Kreyling, 78, of Kiawah Island, South Carolina, wife of Larry D. Kreyling (married 56 years), entered into eternal rest, May 16, 2023. Shirley, the daughter of the late Donald and Gladys Payne, was born August 8, 1944 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She grew up in several small towns, attended high school in Red Wing, and graduated from Goodhue High School. After graduating with Bachelor and Master's Degrees in education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, she married Larry Kreyling and settled in St. Louis, Missouri. Shirley taught Family and Consumer Science for several years at Crestview Middle School. After retiring, she and Larry moved to Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Shirley loved sewing and made several outfits for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed water aerobics, bike riding, and volunteering for various civic groups. Shirley's greatest love and passion was for family, especially grand children (Olivia, Charlotte, Sylvia Payne) (Kennedy and Hadley Kreyling). Whenever they were around, she displayed her infectious smile and bright eyes, and always enjoyed supporting their many activities. Shirley was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Payne. She is survived by her husband, Larry, sons, Jason Kreyling of Charlotte, N.C., Jonathan Kreyling (Jaime) of St., Louis, MO and daughter, Sarah Payne (Jonathan) of Overland Park, Kansas, brother, Roger Payne (Heide) of Granbury, TX, and brother, Edwin Payne (Sharon) of Los Alamos, NM.
