August 5, 2008

To Mrs. Thelma Kennedy, children, and grand children: Dear Mrs. Kennedy, Eula and I would like to express our deepest sympathy on the passing of our dear friend, your husband, Scott Kennedy. When we heard the news, it hurt so bad.

We have known the Kennedy's ever since coming to Charleston in 1963. In all that time, we have been friends, and dedicated Christians raising and educating our children and doing God's work in advancing His kingdom here on earth through Central Baptist Church. No one was more dedicated and worked harder than Trustee Scott Kennedy. He was one of the most dedicated of our Trustees.

But not only that, Oscar Moseley and Scott Kennedy served our country in the Navy and Marine Corps during World War II. Again, both men worked together carrying out our country's mission on the Charleston Naval Base at the Naval Supply Center and the Naval Shipyard, respectively. Having been educated in electronics at Denmark Technical College, Scott Kennedy made a very substantial contribution in prosecuting the Shipyard's shipboard mission in electronics. Not only that, Scott Kennedy was the first African American to rise to the level of supervisor in his department. That was a singular achievement during that period of time.

There are many, many more accolades that could be paid to Scott Kennedy on his achievements, but are too numerous to be singularly deleneated here.

In the tradition of those great Christian women of the holy bible, Mrs. Thelma Kennedy has shown great strength, love, and fortitude in caring for her husband during his life and the trying times of his illness. What she did will never be forgotten by her family, friends, and the Central Baptist Church family.

May God bless all of you.

Sincerely,

Oscar and Eula Moseley

Dear Mrs. Kennedy, Vanessa, Belva and the Kennedy family: I wish to express my deep condolences over the loss of a wonderful Christian man, husband , father, and friend to my father, Oscar Moseley, Jr. I am a pharmaceutical rep specializing in Oncology and I spoke with Mr. Kennedy just last year to ask him if he would give me a photo of himself because my company, Pfizer, was putting together a nationwide cancer survivors tribute for our national meeting. Mr. Kennedy was happy to provide me with a picture of himself in military uniform. He was quite handsome! When Pfizer made this national presentation, I was honored to see Mr. Kennedy's photo amongst the survivors. His photograph reminded me of how I watched him, as a young girl growing up in Central Baptist Church, carry on the responsibility of setting a good example for Central's youth to follow...and he did just that. My heart reaches out to you all and my thoughts and prayers are with you as God holds you in his mighty hands to comfort and support you during this difficult time of change and understanding. God bless you all and I love you!
