Sandra Morris
Hanahan - Sandra Mitchum Morris passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday February 24, 2026. Sandra was born February 10, 1950, in Kingstree, SC to Thomas D. Mitchum and Margaret Bessinger Mitchum who have preceded her in death. Married 57 years, 7 months, 14 days to Ben Morris.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Ben B. Morris; her brother, Tommy Mitchum; and her sons, Don Mitchum (Yvonne), Del Mitchum, Jeff Mitchum (Jennifer), and Ben Morris Jr.
Sandra was a graduate of Hanahan High School, the School of Life, and as a Domestic Engineer. She was loved by all that met or that knew her. Sandra always maintained her faith in God and would often say that God would not put more on her than she could handle. Sandra spent her first year of life in Lane, SC with her grandmother and mother. Many of her early years she and her brother spent the entire summer on the family farm and attended church with her grandmother, Idell Mitchum. Sandra loved to travel and was fortunate to have traveled to Paris, Athens, Rome, Canada, and to have camped at each of the state parks in SC with Table
Rock being her favorite. She loved the outdoors, boating, fishing, tubing, and loved to dance. The actor, Robert Mitchum was a cousin. Robert's father James Mitchum was Idell's brother. Sandra enjoyed talking with that side of the family and helping them out with family history. Sandra was the family matriarch, and she was the glue that held everything together.
Sandra would tell me a couple of things that I would sometimes awkwardly address with her. She would say that I would miss her when she was gone. I would reply, "No, I won't, because you're not going anywhere," or sometimes, "No, I won't, because I'm going with you." another saying of hers was she wanted her flowers now not when she is gone. Such a profound meaning.
Well – I hope that I did give her all of her flowers while we were together 57Y.7M.14D and I do miss her beyond the belief that she is now with the lord and no longer with me. Sandra was the best of us and I wake up each morning in tears that she is not by my side. She was right. I do miss her.
A private family Celebration of Life was held at Carolina Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406.
