Sam Shaw Obituary

Sam Shaw CHARLESTON - Sam Fusco Shaw, Marine, Vietnam Veteran, Sound Editor and loving husband, passed away in the VA Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina on October 6, 2024 due to sepsis. He was 78 years old. Sam, a native Californian, was sound editor of some of Hollywood's most iconic movie,s such as the original "Star Wars", for which he won a BAFTA and a Saturn award. He worked with Terrence Malick on the masterpiece "Badlands" amongst others, won an Emmy for the series "Airwolf" and was nominated for 3 more. He won a Golden Reel for sound effects in cult film "Freebie and the Bean" and nominated for a Golden Reel Award for "Galaxy Sounds". He is survived by his wife, Maggie (Margaret Eileen Jones-Shaw) of Charleston, who cared for him tirelessly until the end along with his step children Patricia Costa-Jones Bergaz, (Tristan Bergaz),George Costa-Jones, grandsons Tristan and Patrick Bergaz of Madrid, Spain. Their invaluable love and support will not be forgotten. He is also survived by Lisa and Justin Shaw of Los Angeles, California, Ryan and Kelly Shaw, Ella Rae and Caroline of Hilton Head, South Carolina, brother, Paul Shaw (Christina) and sister, Diane Shaw of Los Angeles, California. Sam's ashes will be buried at Beaufort National Cemetery on January 30, 2024 at 2pm. Holy Mass and a Rosary will be said for the repose of his soul.

I took care of Mr. Sam Shaw a few times. I was his Home Health Nurse and he was very sweet. I will definitely miss him. So sorry for your loss Miss Maggie. May he be in peace

So sorry Maggie that you lost Sam so soon . You really were a lovely couple. I´ll miss the great times we had at your wonderful party´s . Sam,if your weren´t a sound editor you certainly could have been a Hollywood star.
I know that today is a difficult one, but Maggie no one could have taken better care of Sam than you Patty & Jorge. Sam was a very happy man.
