Royce Green Obituary

Royce Alton Green, Jr. MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Royce Alton Green, Jr., 80, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and formerly of Andrews, SC, died peacefully following a lengthy and challenging illness on June 18, 2015. Mr. Green was widely known in the area, and took great pleasure in helping those who were down on their luck in life. Many will remember Mr. Green from his association with various amusement companies, and as owner of Sun Fun Amusement Park and Green Coin Machines. He had served as President of the South Carolina Coin Operators Association and was a natural leader in the industry. His interest in work, politics, and the welfare of others never waned. Mr. Green enjoyed a large and extended family, with his many grandchildren and great-grandsons bringing special joy into his life. The family would especially like to thank his devoted companion, Ms. Georgia Bell Martin, for sharing her love and grace with him and us during his later years. The family is grateful to all who visited "Big Daddy" during the years of his illness, and to those who cared for him at NHC in Murrells Inlet and at Tidelands Hospice in Georgetown. A memorial service is planned for 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 21, 2015, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Andrews, SC. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8:00 pm on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial gifts be made to Tidelands Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser Street, Georgetown, SC 29440; Surfside Methodist Church, 800 13th Avenue North, Surfside Beach, SC 29575; Trinity UMC, 205 S. I was born in North Myrtle Beach, my mother Judy Jean Miller would bring up Royce Greens name while I was growing up because she worked for a beach side amusement setup. I wish I could have met and talked to Royce, condolences to the friends and family.

One summer some of our family came with 3 teens. They would walk to Royce and Carolyns and he would drive them to the pavilion. A great memory for all.

Mr. Green was like a father to me. A friend and confidant that you could trust. He was not only the hardest working man in the coin-op industry, he was one of the best political stratagist, horse traders and common sense business men I've worked with. A giant has left us. My sincere condolances to his family.

The first man I ever worked for in the Carnival business. I was 18 and he taught me to be respectful and mind my own business, that helped carry me through 20 years of showbusiness. He was a Great American Showman. He loved Mother Green and now they will be together again. He will be missed.

You will be missed by so many people. You touched our family and will always be remembered. As you watched over everyone here on earth so you will now continue to do so as an Angel above.

The world will turn a little slower now, as the hardest working man I've ever met, has moved on from it. The Angels better be ready. No more lounging around on clouds. "Big Daddy" is gonna show em how to "cut some grass."
