Roxie Smith CHARLESTON - Roxie Augustine Smith, 96, passed away February 24, 2018 at her home on Daniel Island, in Charleston, South Carolina. A Memorial Service will be held at Leavitt Funeral Home, 403 7th St Parkersburg, West Virginia, on March 24, 2018 at 1:00 PM, followed by interment at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are invited for refreshments at Leavitt Family Center following the graveside service. Roxie (Augie) was born to Lloyd J. and Frostie Sea Pratt in Weston, West Virginia on May 26, 1921, and grew up in Vienna and Parkersburg. She graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1941 and married her sweetheart, James Taylor (Jim) Smith on Christmas Eve of the same year. Her devotion for her, 'Jimmy' would never wane, even though she had to live without him for 43 years after his early death in 1975. Augie worked as a bookkeeper and later in medical records while Jim served in the Coast Guard in WWII and later attended Podiatry school at Case Western Reserve, but her heartfelt desire was to be a mother. That dream became a reality when Jim and Augie adopted Roxanne in 1955 and then Charlene in 1956. For the rest of her days, Augie had one focus - her family. Her love was deep, abiding, and unconditional. Roxie Augustine was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Pratt, her sister, Josephine, her adoring husband, Jim, and her daughter, Roxanne. Survivors include her daughter, Helen Charlene Pearman (Mike) of Daniel Island, SC, her grandchildren, Sean Pearman, Geoffrey Pearman (Kim), Alethia Wright, Adessa Aldrete, and seven great-grandchildren.
