Ronald Brogan

Greensburg, PA - Ronald William Brogan, 84, of Greensburg, PA, formerly of Charleston, died Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Mountain View Senior Living, in Greensburg. He was born in Pittsburgh on July 29, 1941, the son of the late William Joseph Brogan and Ruth Gladys Wolfe Brogan. Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Randi Brogan, in 2019. He is survived by his son, Ronald Sean Brogan (April) of Columbus, Ohio; his grandchildren, September and Sean Michael Brogan and Stephanie Dodge; his great grandson, Theodore Wyatt Dodge; his sisters, Marlene Johnson (Bob McBride), of Jeannette and Linda Garvey of Dover, Delaware; his nieces, Bonnie Ann DeMasi (Andrew), Kristina Johnson (John Wojtseck) and Karla Johnson, Melissa Davis and Kelly Abbrescia.

Directly out of high school, Ron enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. For the next 6 years he was responsible for reporting and writing for The Stars and Stripes newspaper. Upon returning to the States, he completed a degree in Journalism. He was employed by the local newspaper, Daily Dispatch, as a sports reporter. For the next 40 plus years, he resided in Charleston South Carolina. He married his best friend/partner, Randi, in 1994.

Prior to retirement, Ronald was employed as a Postal Carrier with the United States Post Office in Charleston, SC.

Due to failing health, Ron returned to his hometown of Greensburg to live with his sister, Marlene, for the next year. As his health continued to fail him, Ron needed more assistance. He choose to reside at Mountain View Senior Living where he was very happy and made many friends.

Ronald enjoyed golfing and loved all sports, especially football season. He had a great sense of humor which helped him in his final years as his health declined. The staff at Mountain View Senior Living were patient and caring in his yearlong stay with them.

He was a member of AA and celebrated 37 years of sobriety while living in South Carolina and PA. Ron enjoyed many activities with his AA Sponsor and friends.

Sympathy and condolences to the entire Brogan Family.

Ron and I covered the Westmoreland County Commissioners in the early 70's, he for the Valley News Dispatch and me for the Irwin Standard Observer.

We became friends and had many discussions about life, family and the state of American life and liberty. He was very intelligent, opinionated and had an exceptional ability to make his thoughts known clearly.

We lost touch with one another when he moved to South Carolina. Ron had a fulfilling and valued life. He made a difference to all who knew him.
